The word "Sava" is an Indian word meaning "Service." It means to give back and therefore, Viasava translates loosely to "By way of giving back (service)." The name is a commitment that no matter how far we go and no matter what we do, we will always give back to our communities and to those in need in the hopes of always doing something positive with our music while still giving people a good time.
Viasava will take 10% of all proceeds gained from physical merchandise (tshirts, CDs, etc.) and donate it to a charity of the band's choice. Once we reach a specific goal with one charity we will decide on another and continue to help raise money and awareness for that specific charity.
We feel like this is a great way to give back and also a great way to give our fans something more for their money...not just music or something to wear but also just an opportunity for everyone to feel like they made a difference and did something good. Millions of people around the world are suffering from Parkinson's disease and so many more have had their lives affected by watching loved ones suffer through this dibilitating disease. Our own singer, Dustin Lowery, just very recently lost his father to Parkinson's and so, it was only fitting that we allowed him the honor to pick the first charity we donate to. Naturally, he picked one close to his heart and one that is making great strides in research to find a cure. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s today. |
